MILAN (SONY) EDITA LA PRIMERA TEMPORADA DE "SUCCESSION" DE NICHOLAS BRITELL


Milan Records, an imprint of Sony Music Masterworks, announces SUCCESSION: SEASON 1 (ORIGINAL SERIES SOUNDTRACK) with music by Academy Award-nominated composer NICHOLAS BRITELL (If Beale Street Could Talk, Moonlight, The Big Short and Vice).  Along with his impressive resume of film and television scores, Nicholas Britell was most recently nominated for a 2019 Emmy Award for his work on Succession in the category of “Outstanding Original Main Title Theme.”  Available Friday, August 9, the soundtrack features music from the critically acclaimed HBO series, which was nominated for a total of five Emmy Awards including Outstanding Drama Series.  The show returns for its highly anticipated second season on Sunday, August 11.    

Of the soundtrack, composer NICHOLAS BRITELL says, “I am so excited to be releasing this music from Season 1 of Succession. The score features a juxtaposition of strings, winds, brass, pianos, odd electronic textures, 808 bass, and hip-hop beats. From the earliest stages of working on the show, I hoped for the music to have a sense of old-world gravitas, while also feeling strange and - at times - absurd. I've loved collaborating with Jesse Armstrong and Adam McKay to craft this musical landscape for Succession."

Created by Oscar and WGA nominee Jesse Armstrong (In the Loop), with the pilot written by Armstrong and directed by Oscar-winner Adam McKay (The Big Short),Succession tracks the lives of the Roy family as they contemplate their future once their aging father begins to step back from the media and entertainment conglomerate they control.

Set in New York, Succession explores themes of power, politics, money, and family. Logan Roy (Brian Cox), the tough, powerful, aging patriarch, is head of Waystar Royco, a family-controlled international media conglomerate. He is married to his third wife, Marcia (Hiam Abbass), a loving, formidable partner. The Roy family, which includes troubled former heir-apparent Kendall (Jeremy Strong), his outspoken, fun-loving brother Roman (Kieran Culkin), and his savvy but conflicted sister, Shiv (Sarah Snook), jousting for power as they struggle to retain control of their father's empire. Connor Roy (Alan Ruck), Logan’s eldest son, and only child from his first marriage, has pursued an independent life in New Mexico.

The season one cast includes Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong, Hiam Abbass, Sarah Snook, Kieran Culkin, Alan Ruck, Nicholas Braun, Matthew Macfadyen, Natalie Gold, Peter Friedman and Rob Yang.

Succession season one credits include: created by Jesse Armstrong; executive produced by Jesse Armstrong, Adam McKay, Frank Rich, Kevin Messick, Will Ferrell, Jane Tranter and Mark Mylod.  Jesse Armstrong serves as showrunner.

ABOUT NICHOLAS BRITELL
Academy Award-nominated composer and pianist Nicholas Britell is known for his critically acclaimed scores on feature films with close collaborators, Academy-Award winners Barry Jenkins and Adam McKay. His most recent work includes the score for Jenkins’ If Beale Street Could Talk (2018) for which he received his second Academy Award nomination as well as a BAFTA and Critics Choice nomination, and was awarded Best Original Score by numerous critics’ groups, including LA, Boston, Chicago and Washington DC Film Critics Association, New York Film Critics Online and the Online Film Critics Association. In 2018, he also wrote the score for McKay’s Vice, starring Christian Bale, which went on to receive eight Academy Award nominations.

In 2016, Britell was responsible for the world-renowned and critically-acclaimed score for Best Picture winner Moonlight, written and directed by Jenkins. Britell received his first Academy Award, Golden Globe and Critics Choice nominations for Moonlight as well as the 2016 Hollywood Music in Media Award for Best Original Score (Dramatic Feature). The year prior, he wrote the score for McKays much-nominated The Big Short, based on Michael Lewiss best-selling book.

Britell’s music featured in Steve McQueens Best Picture winning 12 Years A Slave, for which he composed and arranged the on-camera music, including the violin performances, spiritual songs, work songs, and dances. He went on to work with McQueen on McQueens art installation Caribs' Leap, which featured as part of theMaster of Light – Robby Müller” retrospective at the Eye film museum in Amsterdam. Other original film score credits include Valerie Faris and Jonathan Dayton’sBattle of the Sexes, for which he also wrote and produced original song, If I Dare” with singer Sara Bareilles; Natalie Portman’s A Tale of Love and Darkness; Adam Leon’s Gimme the Loot (winner of the 2012 SXSW Grand Jury Prize); Leon’s Tramps; Gary Ross’ Free State of Jones and Jack Pettibone Riccobonos documentaryThe Seventh Fire.

For television, Britell scored McKays critically-acclaimed HBO series Succession, for which he received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Original Main Title Theme and won the 2018 Hollywood Music in Media Award for Best Original Score (TV Show/Limited Series). He is currently working on the highly-anticipated second season, out in August 2019. Britell is set to write the score for the upcoming Amazon Underground Railroad series, directed and adapted by Barry Jenkins from Colson Whiteheads Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award for Fiction winning novel of the same name.

In October 2017, Britell was awarded the Discovery of the Year” Award at the World Soundtrack Awards in Ghent, Belgium, as well as the Distinguished Composer Award from the Middleburg Film Festival. In May 2019, Britell was awarded - with music supervisor Gabe Hilfer - the first-ever ASCAP Harmony Award celebrating outstanding collaborative achievement between composers and music supervisors. 

Britell is a Steinway Artist and is a Founding Member of L.A. Dance Project. He is Chairman of the Board of the New York-based ensemble Decoda, the first-ever affiliate ensemble of Carnegie Hall. He was awarded the Henry Mancini Fellowship from the ASCAP Foundation in December 2012 and also won the ASCAP/Doddle Award for Collaborative Achievement.  In December 2018, it was announced that Britell will be part of Esa-Pekka Salonen's newly-formed creative collective "brain trust" as Salonen takes the reins as music director of the San Francisco Symphony.

For the past eight years, Britell has been performing as part of the “Portals” project with violinist Tim Fain. In fact, Britell has been performing for audiences from a very young age, giving his first public recital at the age of 10. He was a student of the late Jane Carlson at the Juilliard School. His recent public performances have included concerts at Londons Barbican Hall, the Million Dollar Theatre in Los Angeles, and at Chicagos Ravinia.

As a producer, Britell produced Damien Chazelles short film Whiplash, which won the Jury Award for Best US Fiction Short at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. Following the initial success of the short, he served as co-producer on the Oscar-nominated feature film Whiplash which won Sundances 2014 Jury Prize and Audience Award.

Britell is an honors and Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Harvard University, as well as a piano performance graduate of the Juilliard Schools Pre-College Division. He returned in May 2016 as the Pre-College's commencement speaker.

Villefranche est une petite ville isolée au coeur d’une forêt gigantesque, un labyrinthe vert de milliers d’hectares non cartographié où toute tentative de télécommunication est hasardeuse. Le major Laurène Weiss s'enfonce toujours plus loin parmi les arbres pour percer leurs secrets, notamment celui de son propre enlèvement vingt ans plus tôt.

Composée par Thomas Couzinier et Frédéric Kooshmanian, la musique de cette saison 2 procure une tension grandissante. Cordes et synthés sèment le trouble et rendent compte de l'ambiance dans ce village encerclé par la  forêt, où criminalité et rivalité sont monnaies courantes. 

En 2017, Thomas Couzinier & Frédéric Kooshmanian gagnaient le Fipa d'Or de Meilleure Musique Originale pour la première saison de  Zone Blanche.

MILAN EDITA "QUAND ON CRIE AU LOUP" DE ERWANN CHANDON

Victor, orphelin de 12 ans, vit avec son grand-père, concierge d'un immeuble bourgeois, interprété par Gérard Jugnot. Le pré-adolescent passe le plus clair de son temps à se faire peur en inventant des histoires invraisemblables. Son imagination fertile finit par lui jouer des tours : à force de crier au loup, plus personne ne le croit, jusqu'au jour où deux braqueurs en cavale s'introduisent dans l'immeuble. Victor va devoir se débrouiller tout seul contre les malfrats...
Après "Joséphine s'arrondit", Marilou Berry revient avec une comédie familial qui rappelle l'univers de Roald Dahl et "Matilda" ou encore de "Maman, j'ai râté l'avion" de Chris Columbus. Comme dans ces classiques pour enfants, on retrouve dans la musique d'Erwann Chandon le goût de l'innocence et de l'aventure!

En 2018/2019, Erwann Chandon signe la musique de trois longs métrages consécutifs : Une Année Polaire (Samuel Collardey), La Dernière Vie de Simon (Léo Karmann) et Quand On Crie au Loup (Marilou Berry). Il compose la musique originale de nombreux courts métrages (Hurricane Gangster, L’Ours noir, X ou Y) et passe aisément de la prise de vue réelle à l’animation (Kaal, Captain Fish, Le Rêve de Sam) en passant par la Publicité (Erics Bompard, Montfort) et jeu vidéo. Erwann travaille par ailleurs pour le théâtre (Alice au pays des merveilles, La reine des bisous) et le concert.

Il gagne le prix de la meilleur musique pour "La Bague Au Doigt" au Athens Animfest 2019 ou encore la Plume de Cristal lors du Festival des Scénaristes de Valence 2015.
